Purification Process

KD Pharma uses kd-pür, our Super Critical Fluid (SCF) Technology to purify Omega-3 fatty acids.  kd-pür involves using CO2 as an extraction medium to gently extract the fish oil ethyl esters and separate them from other parts of the oil such as glycerides, free fatty acids, dyes and cholesterols.

The advantage of extracting the ethyl esters using kd-pür technology is that by using CO2 during this process, the extracted oils are not placed under excessive heat (temperatures never exceed 50°C) and never come into contact with oxygen. This does not only ensure the protection from oxidation of the product, but also from contamination from micro organisms that cannot survive in an oxygen free atmosphere.

Traditional methods of extraction such as Short Way Distillation require the application of very high temperatures (up to 200°C). These high temperatures apply large amounts of stress on the product and can induce molecular rearrangements and changes.

Additionally due to the insolubility of heavy metals and other impurities in CO2, a product of extremely high purity can be obtained without any harmful substances. Unlike some other extractions methods no chemical solvents nor water, sugar, saturated fatty acids, cholesterol and proteins can be found in the oil. Thus, no additional conservation is necessary, which means the exclusion of any chemical preservatives.
